11 Jun Elgin Courier: Elgin-based doctor member of federal task force on opioid abuse
Mike Danahey of the Elgin Courier reported on Dr. Prunskis’ appointment and membership in the HHS Pain Task force.
Excerpts from the article:
An interventional pain specialist, Prunskis said the institute has been vocal in the need to diagnose the source of pain in order to treat it and to limit the use of opioids, which can mask a pain’s source. The approach is growing in popularity as awareness of the opioid painkiller epidemic increases, Prunskis said.
“I hope to learn from the other members of the Pain Task Force as well as contribute what the Illinois Pain Institute has accomplished in fixing the source of pain and reducing opioid use for over 25 years,” Prunskis said. “I love treating my patients, and I am happy to offer my experience to help the USA to fight the opioid epidemic.”
