Dr. John Prunskis Named Castle Connolly Top Pain Doctor for the Ninth Time

Illinois Pain Institute is proud to announce that Dr. John Prunskis has been named a Top Pain Doctor by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. for the ninth time. Recognition was awarded by peer nomination, with more than 100,000 medical professionals submitting their picks for the top specialists across the nation and various regions. Upon receiving the nominations in each category, Castle Connolly’s physician-directed research team looked closely at each nominee’s credentials, professional achievements, outcome data, and more to determine their Top Doctor selections.

“Since Illinois Pain Institute was founded in 1992, we have had a passion to identify the source of the pain, fix it, and reduce or eliminate the use of opiate narcotic medications,” says Dr. Prunskis. “I humbly accept this award knowing that it was a team effort on the part of the over 75 physicians and staff at the Illinois Pain Institute.”

Castle Connolly Top Doctors are recognized nationwide for their strong commitment to care and leadership in their communities. For more than two decades, Castle Connolly has been honoring those doctors who go above and beyond in their attempts to provide optimal services for their patients and who prove dedicated to continued education and training, innovative practices, and optimal services.

Dr. Prunskis is the co-founder of the Illinois Pain Institute and a clinical professor at Chicago Medical School. He is also the CEO and medical director of The Regenerative Stem Cell Institute, co-investigating the largest adult autologous stem cell research study in the United States. He is double board certified and has been named a Fellow in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), the highest international distinction for an interventional pain physician.

Much of Dr. Prunskis’ celebrated career has been spent exploring new ways to treat pain without reliance on opioid medications. As a member of the Illinois State Medical Society House of Delegates, Dr. Prunskis introduced the resolution that helped create the Illinois Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, through which physicians and pharmacists can view information on a current or prospective patient’s prescription history. These efforts, coupled with his history of providing top-quality, highly effective pain care, are part of the reason Dr. Prunskis has won the coveted Castle Connolly Top Pain Doctor Award an amazing nine times (1999, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018).
